Throughout the school term, a number of activities will take place in the K-12
partner schools and members of the context team will assume roles
and receive compensation for their part in accomplishing tasks.
The roles involve the following:
Team coordinator(May also be PDS coordinator
- Works with USC staff to schedule location and meeting times,
send reminders to other team members collect and submit team stipend
forms, surveys and project proposals.
- Keep USC faculty apprised of special needs and problems
- Distributes project information to team or faculty (e.g. project
proposal applications, related conference)
Research proposal recipient
- Context team members may apply for funding for resources to design
inquiry and research projects. USC faculty and master teachers help
interns and new teachers write proposals and create budgets. Context
team members who have completed successful projects may be asked
to give presentations at in-service meetings or at professional
conferences
Special project coordinator
- Facilitates development of service learning grant and/or intern
professional resource labs
Team recorder
- Keeps notes of meetings and submits typed minutes within one
week of the meeting.
- May help schedule events and distribute information
Data Collector
- Will help develop questionnaire that reflects the needs of a
particular school and seeks information to improve the environment
for PDS collaboration in coaching, supervising and mentoring USC
interns and induction year teachers
- Develop a 1-2 page list of recommendations to help improve the
clinical environment at each school. These improvements will be
based on the six areas listed on the context team mission statement
Teacher Demonstrator
- Allows USC Arts/Science faculty interested in observing interns
in K-12 schools to visit in classroom to see how the content and
standards work in a daily lesson
- Hosts after school meetings with 5-10 Arts/science faculty to
look at district standards
Arts and Science Faculty
- Attends context team meetings, help define research opportunities
and needs of schools related to preservice teachers
- Co-teach classes and conduct guest lectures
- Invite other faculty to work on special projects, observe teachers
and/or host information meetings relating to standards and curriculum
- Participates on an advisory team, may report on model sites
in and out of state
- Designs and teaches courses in conjunction with Education faculty based on project needs and recommendations
Student Teacher or Intern: (no stipends included)
- Serves for one semester on the team with the coaching teacher
- May be involved with the design, implementation or analyses of inquiry projects
