Bradley Inquiry Projects
Multi-Ethnic Reading Instruction: The Impact of Small Group Reading Instruction on LEP Students

Ms. Margo Jackson is conducting this inquiry project that helps LEP students feel more integrated in the regular classroom. Ms. Jackson's multi-ethnic reading instruction program is part of a study to explore methods to help LEP students transition from their native language via small group reading, writing, and speaking activities.

First, Ms. Jackson has all of her students sit in a semi-circle in the front of the classroom at the beginning of a lesson. Next, while the majority of students return back to their seats, Ms. Jackson keeps two-three of the LEP students at the front of the room to continue teaching them one-on-one conversational and necessary English words and uses. This was a very effective way to ensure that the special needs children get the specialized attention they need while not taking time away from the other kids in the class.

Ms. Jackson's class is very interactive and hands-on based which helps to engage the children in the lesson.
