A student writes about her favorite part of the book she read independently. The books purchased through the Teacher Quality Grant are used for student independent and partner reading. Students choose books from baskets of books that are on their level. They keep five books in a freezer type plastic bag in their desks. Students choose books for their "book bags" (Large freezer bags are used in this class.) Each student chooses their five books from baskets of leveled texts. Mini-lessons on how to choose books help students know to read the first page of a new book, if there are more than 3 to 5 works they can't read the book is too difficult.
