Teacher: Saudah Collins
Project: Developing Scientific Knowledge/Children's Expressions through
Literature
Intern's or Practicum Student's: Shawn Davis, Preshion McClurkin
How did this project benefit your students?
My students learned
a great deal from their inquiry projects. They became quite astute
at conducting research. My third grade students
led their first grade Literature Study Buddies through a five-week
inquiry investigation of about an animal selected by the first
grader.
How did this project benefit your intern or practicum student?
The university students expressed how much they learned concerning
organizing inquiry experiences for the students in their care.
They now have a better understanding of how to lead their future
students through this process with a greater level of success.
How do you think this project will enhance your future
instrucrion?
I will continue to use student-Ied inquiry in my classroom. I feel
it is a powerful instructional tool that allows the students
to take ownership of their learning.
If you were to do this project again, what would you do differently?
I am going to try to expand student-led inquiry into my mathematics
instruction. I feel that the students would be able to increase
their mathematical knowledge through mathematics inquiry .
